A Little Help with Vicky’s Inheritance
Vicky was born with a life-threatening disease. The best treatment for it turned out to be the Internet.
A Little Help with Vicky Peck’s Inheritance
While living in Ohio, Vicky Peck discovered she had a hereditary disorder called HHT (Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiecstasia) which causes veins and arteries to grow side by side, often fused together, instead of separated by a bed of capillaries. When high-pressure arterial blood enters the vein next to the artery it can cause a weakness called an Arterio-Venous Malformation (AVM). Vicky had an AVM and underwent a process called coil embolization while she was in Ohio. Later, here in Birmingham, Vicky went to UAB where she discovered that her original AVM had not been completely repaired. She underwent a minimally invasive procedure at the UAB Heart & Vascular Center to address the potentially life-threatening problem.
